The Empire of Light Appears

One of Surrealist painter Rene Magritte's most famous works is called The Empire of Light:  a street and dwelling dimly lit by street lights but in the deep darkness of night, with an incongruously bright sunlit noon sky behind the gloomy trees.

Most people who know Magritte's work even slightly, will remember the image. In fact, The Empire of Light is a series of paintings depicting similar scenes.

So, I was rather amazed when a few weeks ago, I saw the above scene and took an photo of it: it's Magritte's Empire of Light, but happening for real!
